Exodus: 25:1-27:19

Reading #5 - Exodus 26:31–37

My Thoughts:

Today we learn about the veil between the Holy of Holies and the Holy Place. It is the veil that only the high priest can go through, once a year. It covers the room that contains the Ark of the Covenant. It has to be very special and the “work of a skillful workman (verse 31)”. And again there are cherubim weaved in it. I find it curious that the Ark has two cherubim and the veil has more cherubim. I believe Hashem is in the presence of many angels in His heavenly Kingdom and wants to recognize their continual presence in the Tabernacle. He is familiar with having them around Him in the Kingdom and wants the same on the earth. What do you think?

Challenge:

How about doing a quick study on angels? Go to Chabbad.org and read this very interesting article called: ANGELS. And if you have time maybe just “google” angels online. Or go to your Bible and look up angel verses. We know they are real and a very part of Hashem’s Kingdom. So, it is important to know more about Hashem!

Reading #5 - Exodus 26:31–37

26:31 “You shall make a veil of blue, and purple, and scarlet, and fine twined linen, with cherubim. It shall be the work of a skillful workman. 32 You shall hang it on four pillars of acacia overlaid with gold; their hooks shall be of gold, on four sockets of silver. 33 You shall hang up the veil under the clasps, and shall bring the ark of the covenant in there within the veil. The veil shall separate the holy place from the most holy for you. 34 You shall put the mercy seat on the ark of the covenant in the most holy place. 35 You shall set the table outside the veil, and the lamp stand opposite the table on the side of the tabernacle toward the south. You shall put the table on the north side.

36 “You shall make a screen for the door of the Tent, of blue, and purple, and scarlet, and fine twined linen, the work of the embroiderer. 37 You shall make for the screen five pillars of acacia, and overlay them with gold. Their hooks shall be of gold. You shall cast five sockets of bronze for them.

Exodus:25:1-27:19

Reading #4 - Exodus 26:15–30

My Thoughts:

The boards in today’s reading were built and placed on three sides of the Tabernacle structure. Apparently on the front entrance there were five pillars. The curtains went in between the boards. Most interesting is the boards are overlaid with gold! That’s a lot of gold! But, remember the Israelites had “received” gold and other goods from the Egyptians just before they left. Now they were giving their best for the building of the tabernacle. This place was the most special place -- it was going to be the resting place for Hashem. It could only be the best.

Challenge:

Are you giving Hashem your best? If you were “building” a resting place for Him, would you contribute your gold? It is important that we are giving to Hashem in whatever way He asks us. It may be given to a charity, a friend, a family member -- or the actual preparation for the Temple in Jerusalem. As mentioned before you can give to the: Temple Institute Jerusalem. Think about how you are supporting or giving to Hashem today. Together we can all support the Kingdom of Elohim!

Reading #4 - Exodus 26:15–30

26:15 “You shall make the boards for the tabernacle of acacia wood, standing upright. 16 Ten cubits shall be the length of a board, and one and a half cubits the width of each board. 17 There shall be two tenons in each board, joined to one another: thus you shall make for all the boards of the tabernacle. 18 You shall make twenty boards for the tabernacle, for the south side southward. 19 You shall make forty sockets of silver under the twenty boards; two sockets under one board for its two tenons, and two sockets under another board for its two tenons. 20 For the second side of the tabernacle, on the north side, twenty boards, 21 and their forty sockets of silver; two sockets under one board, and two sockets under another board. 22 For the far side of the tabernacle westward you shall make six boards. 23 You shall make two boards for the corners of the tabernacle in the far side. 24 They shall be double beneath, and in the same way they shall be whole to its top to one ring: thus shall it be for them both; they shall be for the two corners. 25 There shall be eight boards, and their sockets of silver, sixteen sockets; two sockets under one board, and two sockets under another board.

26 “You shall make bars of acacia wood: five for the boards of the one side of the tabernacle, 27 and five bars for the boards of the other side of the tabernacle, and five bars for the boards of the side of the tabernacle, for the far side westward. 28 The middle bar in the middle of the boards shall pass through from end to end. 29 You shall overlay the boards with gold, and make their rings of gold for places for the bars. You shall overlay the bars with gold. 30 You shall set up the tabernacle according to the way that it was shown to you on the mountain.

Exodus:25:1-27:19

Reading #3 - Exodus 25:31–26:14

My Thoughts:

Interesting in verse 26:17 “You shall make a covering for the tent of rams’ skins dyed red” - we see that Hashem is asking for rams to be sacrificed so that a covering will be made. We know the importance of the ram in the story of Abraham and Isaac. The ram is the substitute offering for Isaac’s life. How appropriate the tent will now be covered in ram’s skins. Every detail of the Tabernacle has meaning. Maybe the skins were dyed red to remind us of the power of blood sacrifices -- repentance and forgiveness. It is all so carefully planned by our Elohim!

Challenge:

This reading is about detailed instructions for the house of Elohim. He gives instructions for a lamp stand. This lamp stand will bring light into the “Holy Place”. There are no windows, the lamp will give its light. Without it the priests would be in the dark. Of course, the same in our lives. Without the light of Hashem and His only begotten son Yeshua, we walk in the dark. The Torah brings light and life into our lives. My challenge for you today is to look at your daily life. Are you reading Torah and Scriptures on a daily basis and bringing Hashem’s light into your life and others? If not, please start to do so today. We all need to stop walking in the dark.

Reading #3 - Exodus 25:31–26:14

25:31 “You shall make a lamp stand of pure gold. The lamp stand shall be made of hammered work. Its base, its shaft, its cups, its buds, and its flowers shall be of one piece with it. 32 There shall be six branches going out of its sides: three branches of the lamp stand out of its one side, and three branches of the lamp stand out of its other side; 33 three cups made like almond blossoms in one branch, a bud and a flower; and three cups made like almond blossoms in the other branch, a bud and a flower, so for the six branches going out of the lamp stand; 34 and in the lamp stand four cups made like almond blossoms, its buds and its flowers; 35 and a bud under two branches of one piece with it, and a bud under two branches of one piece with it, and a bud under two branches of one piece with it, for the six branches going out of the lamp stand. 36 Their buds and their branches shall be of one piece with it, all of it one beaten work of pure gold. 37 You shall make its lamps seven, and they shall light its lamps to give light to the space in front of it. 38 Its snuffers and its snuff dishes shall be of pure gold. 39 It shall be made of a talent of pure gold, with all these accessories. 40 See that you make them after their pattern, which has been shown to you on the mountain.

26 “Moreover you shall make the tabernacle with ten curtains of fine twined linen, and blue, and purple, and scarlet, with cherubim. You shall make them with the work of a skillful workman. 2 The length of each curtain shall be twenty-eight cubits, and the width of each curtain four cubits: all the curtains shall have one measure. 3 Five curtains shall be coupled together to one another, and the other five curtains shall be coupled to one another. 4 You shall make loops of blue on the edge of the one curtain from the edge in the coupling, and you shall do likewise on the edge of the curtain that is outermost in the second coupling. 5 You shall make fifty loops in the one curtain, and you shall make fifty loops in the edge of the curtain that is in the second coupling. The loops shall be opposite one another. 6 You shall make fifty clasps of gold, and couple the curtains to one another with the clasps. The tabernacle shall be a unit.

7 “You shall make curtains of goats’ hair for a covering over the tabernacle. You shall make eleven curtains. 8 The length of each curtain shall be thirty cubits, and the width of each curtain four cubits: the eleven curtains shall have one measure. 9 You shall couple five curtains by themselves, and six curtains by themselves, and shall double over the sixth curtain in the forefront of the tent. 10 You shall make fifty loops on the edge of the one curtain that is outermost in the coupling, and fifty loops on the edge of the curtain which is outermost in the second coupling. 11 You shall make fifty clasps of bronze, and put the clasps into the loops, and couple the tent together, that it may be one. 12 The overhanging part that remains of the curtains of the tent—the half curtain that remains—shall hang over the back of the tabernacle. 13 The cubit on the one side and the cubit on the other side, of that which remains in the length of the curtains of the tent, shall hang over the sides of the tabernacle on this side and on that side, to cover it. 14 You shall make a covering for the tent of rams’ skins dyed red, and a covering of sea cow hides above.

Exodus:25:1-27:19

Reading #2 -Exodus 25:17–30

My Thoughts:

Hashem is beginning to give specific instructions for His dwelling place, the holy Tabernacle. His very first instruction is for the place where “I will meet with you (verse 22)”. The ark of the covenant. He designs a place where He can dwell over His Covenant with the people. The Covenant is the Law. Try to understand this, His Law is so important that He wants us to create a special housing for it, and a place over it for Him to dwell. Under the wings of angels will reside His Covenant with and for the people. That should make us think. Sink this Truth into your heart. Of all the places Hashem would dwell -- He chooses to be “over” His Law. It is very, very symbolic. His authority and purpose is over the Law today. We need to understand and respect this.

Challenge:

Are you following the Torah -- Hashem’s Law? Are you just beginning to understand it and trying to do your best in obeying it? That’s where I am. Coming to the Law as a “stranger” or “foreigner” is not easy. We might not have the opportunity to go to a synagogue, but there are many online groups that do wonderful studies on the Torah. You might check out: Chabbad It had so much information on Judaism and the Torah. Also a "Messianic" site - First Fruits of Zion. Check them out. There is so much to learn and be blessed by!

Reading #2 - Exodus 25:17–30

25:17 You shall make a mercy seat of pure gold. Two and a half cubits shall be its length, and a cubit and a half its width. 18 You shall make two cherubim of hammered gold. You shall make them at the two ends of the mercy seat. 19 Make one cherub at the one end, and one cherub at the other end. You shall make the cherubim on its two ends of one piece with the mercy seat. 20 The cherubim shall spread out their wings upward, covering the mercy seat with their wings, with their faces toward one another. The faces of the cherubim shall be toward the mercy seat. 21 You shall put the mercy seat on top of the ark, and in the ark you shall put the covenant that I will give you. 22 There I will meet with you, and I will tell you from above the mercy seat, from between the two cherubim which are on the ark of the covenant, all that I command you for the children of Israel.

23 “You shall make a table of acacia wood. Its length shall be two cubits, and its width a cubit, and its height one and a half cubits. 24 You shall overlay it with pure gold, and make a gold molding around it. 25 You shall make a rim of a hand width around it. You shall make a golden molding on its rim around it. 26 You shall make four rings of gold for it, and put the rings in the four corners that are on its four feet. 27 The rings shall be close to the rim, for places for the poles to carry the table. 28 You shall make the poles of acacia wood, and overlay them with gold, that the table may be carried with them. 29 You shall make its dishes, its spoons, its ladles, and its bowls with which to pour out offerings. You shall make them of pure gold. 30 You shall set bread of the presence on the table before me always.

Exodus:25:1-27:19

Reading #1: Exodus 25:1–16

My Thoughts:

Hashem is asking Moses to go to the people and ask for donations to build His holy Tabernacle. And they are to give only if “their heart is willing (verse 2)”. He wants them to build the Tabernacle so that He can “dwell among them (verse 8)”.  How amazing and what an honor that must have been! For the almighty to make a proclamation that He wishes to dwell with them! You would think they would run to give their donations! And remembering they came out of slavery, isn’t it so interesting that the Egyptians just gave them a lot of wonderful valuable articles to take with them? So, Hashem even provided for them to give.

It is all a true lesson. We are to give to Hashem what we have so that His presence is in our lives. It may be prayer, worship, supporting His ministries -- but, we do it all to enjoy His love. His people were able to enjoy His physical appearance, and were to build him a “home”. It was all so good and beautiful!

Challenge:

Are you running to give donations for Hashem’s dwelling place today? You may think -- “Well nobody is building a Temple today -- it’s impossible!” No it is not. There is a group in Jerusalem called the “Temple Institute”. They have been getting ready for the building of the Temple for years. They need your prayer and financial support. Go to: TEMPLE INSTITUTE JERUSALEM . Read about what they are doing to build the 3rd Temple and the return of the Mashiach! Thank you!

Reading #1: Exodus 25:1–16

25 Hashem spoke to Moses, saying, 2 “Speak to the children of Israel, that they take an offering for Me. From everyone whose heart makes him willing you shall take My offering. 3 This is the offering which you shall take from them: gold, silver, bronze, 4 blue, purple, scarlet, fine linen, goats’ hair, 5 rams’ skins dyed red, sea cow hides, acacia wood, 6 oil for the light, spices for the anointing oil and for the sweet incense, 7 onyx stones, and stones to be set for the ephod and for the breastplate. 8 Let them make Me a sanctuary, that I may dwell among them. 9 According to all that I show you, the pattern of the tabernacle, and the pattern of all of its furniture, even so you shall make it.

10 “They shall make an ark of acacia wood. Its length shall be two and a half cubits, its width a cubit and a half, and a cubit and a half its height. 11 You shall overlay it with pure gold. You shall overlay it inside and outside, and you shall make a gold molding around it. 12 You shall cast four rings of gold for it, and put them in its four feet. Two rings shall be on the one side of it, and two rings on the other side of it. 13 You shall make poles of acacia wood, and overlay them with gold. 14 You shall put the poles into the rings on the sides of the ark to carry the ark. 15 The poles shall be in the rings of the ark. They shall not be taken from it. 16 You shall put the covenant which I shall give you into the ark.

Mishpatim - Reading #7

Mishpatim מִּשְׁפָּטִים - Laws
Exodus:21:1-24:18
Haftarah: Isaiah 66:1-24
Apostolic Reading: Matthew 26:20-30

Reading #7 - Exodus 23:26–24:18

My Thoughts:

In verse 26:24 we read “Come up to Hashem.” I am immediately thinking that is what we should do everyday. We should come to Hashem in our prayer, in our worship, in our actions. They were experiencing something that they had never had before. Witnessing the presence and power of Hashem on the mountain. And they were receiving Commandments that would give them LIFE. Hashem’s love for us is just amazing and overwhelming. He takes care of every detail in our life. And when necessary He presents Himself to us. Sometimes in small ways and sometimes big. Through miracles, through people and in everyday life, He makes Himself known to us. If you haven’t been “up to the mountain” lately, I encourage you to do it today!

Challenge:

In the beginning of today’s reading we see how Hashem will confuse the enemy and have them turn their backs on you (verse 23:27). Isn’t that amazing? He knows that daily we can experience spiritual warfare, but if we love Him and serve Him He makes these promises to protect us. If you are in an unusual situation in life, and feel like you are being “attacked” this is a good reading for you today. Know that He goes ahead of you, gets rid of the enemy in your path -- and will make a way for you. A good way. A G-d way. AMEN!

Reading #7 - Exodus 23:26–24:18

23:26 No one will miscarry or be barren in your land. I will fulfill the number of your days. 27 I will send my terror before you, and will confuse all the people to whom you come, and I will make all your enemies turn their backs to you. 28 I will send the hornet before you, which will drive out the Hivite, the Canaanite, and the Hittite, from before you. 29 I will not drive them out from before you in one year, lest the land become desolate, and the animals of the field multiply against you. 30 Little by little I will drive them out from before you, until you have increased and inherit the land. 31 I will set your border from the Red Sea even to the sea of the Philistines, and from the wilderness to the River; for I will deliver the inhabitants of the land into your hand, and you shall drive them out before you. 32 You shall make no covenant with them, nor with their gods. 33 They shall not dwell in your land, lest they make you sin against me, for if you serve their gods, it will surely be a snare to you.”

24 He said to Moses, “Come up to Hashem, you, and Aaron, Nadab, and Abihu, and seventy of the elders of Israel; and worship from a distance. 2 Moses alone shall come near to Hashem, but they shall not come near. The people shall not go up with him.”

3 Moses came and told the people all Hashem’s words, and all the ordinances; and all the people answered with one voice, and said, “All the words which Hashem has spoken will we do.”

4 Moses wrote all Hashem’s words, then rose up early in the morning and built an altar at the base of the mountain, with twelve pillars for the twelve tribes of Israel. 5 He sent young men of the children of Israel, who offered burnt offerings and sacrificed peace offerings of cattle to Hashem. 6 Moses took half of the blood and put it in basins, and half of the blood he sprinkled on the altar. 7 He took the book of the covenant and read it in the hearing of the people, and they said, “We will do all that Hashem has said, and be obedient.”

8 Moses took the blood, and sprinkled it on the people, and said, “Look, this is the blood of the covenant, which Hashem has made with you concerning all these words.”

9 Then Moses, Aaron, Nadab, Abihu, and seventy of the elders of Israel went up. 10 They saw the Elohim of Israel. Under his feet was like a paved work of sapphire stone, like the skies for clearness. 11 He didn’t lay his hand on the nobles of the children of Israel. They saw Hashem, and ate and drank.

12 Hashem said to Moses, “Come up to me on the mountain, and stay here, and I will give you the stone tablets with the law and the commands that I have written, that you may teach them.”

13 Moses rose up with Joshua, his servant, and Moses went up onto Elohim’s Mountain. 14 He said to the elders, “Wait here for us, until we come again to you. Behold, Aaron and Hur are with you. Whoever is involved in a dispute can go to them.”

15 Moses went up on the mountain, and the cloud covered the mountain. 16 Hashem’s glory settled on Mount Sinai, and the cloud covered it six days. The seventh day He called to Moses out of the middle of the cloud. 17 The appearance of Hashem’s glory was like devouring fire on the top of the mountain in the eyes of the children of Israel. 18 Moses entered into the middle of the cloud, and went up on the mountain; and Moses was on the mountain forty days and forty nights.

Haftarah Reading

My Thoughts:

Here in Isaiah we read about the desire of Hashem to have a dwelling place here on earth. Verse 1 says, “What kind of house will you build to Me”. I believe throughout Scripture we read that Hashem loves us and wants to be with us. But, maybe He is waiting for us to welcome Him. Think of it. There has not been a holy Temple, a dwelling place, for Hashem in Jerusalem for over 2,000 years. This holy mountain has been occupied by the enemy for all those years. Have we fought to get it back? Have we prayed to get it back? Are we supporting groups in Israel to rebuild the Temple? We should be giving money and prayer to the rebuilding of the Temple. What could be more important? If you are not doing this, please consider doing so.

Challenge:

There is an organization called the Temple Institute in Jerusalem. They have been preparing all the instruments and necessary artifacts for the Temple and the priests. I have visited their Institute many times and it is incredible. But, they need help and prayer to fulfill their mission. Please go to: TEMPLE INSTITUTE and consider supporting them today. That is my HUGE challenge to you.

Haftarah: Isaiah 66:1-24

66 Hashem says,

“Heaven is My throne, and the earth is My footstool.

    What kind of house will you build to Me?

    Where will I rest?

2 For my hand has made all these things,

    and so all these things came to be,” says Hashem:

“but I will look to this man,

    even to he who is poor and of a contrite spirit,

    and who trembles at My word.

3 He who kills an ox is as he who kills a man;

    he who sacrifices a lamb, as he who breaks a dog’s neck;

    he who offers an offering, as he who offers pig’s blood;

    he who burns frankincense, as he who blesses an idol.

Yes, they have chosen their own ways,

    and their soul delights in their abominations:

4 I also will choose their delusions,

    and will bring their fears on them;

because when I called, no one answered;

    when I spoke, they didn’t listen;

but they did that which was evil in my eyes,

    and chose that in which I didn’t delight.”

5 Hear Hashem’s word,

    you who tremble at His word:

“Your brothers who hate you,

    who cast you out for My name’s sake, have said,

‘Let Hashem be glorified,

    that we may see your joy;’

    but it is those who shall be disappointed.

6 A voice of tumult from the city,

    a voice from the temple,

    a voice of Hashem that repays His enemies what they deserve.

7 “Before she travailed, she gave birth.

    Before her pain came, she delivered a son.

8 Who has heard of such a thing?

    Who has seen such things?

Shall a land be born in one day?

    Shall a nation be born at once?

For as soon as Zion travailed,

    she gave birth to her children.

9 Shall I bring to the birth, and not cause to be delivered?” says Hashem.

    “Shall I who cause to give birth shut the womb?” says your Elohim.

10 “Rejoice with Jerusalem, and be glad for her, all you who love her.

    Rejoice for joy with her, all you who mourn over her;

11 that you may nurse and be satisfied at the comforting breasts;

    that you may drink deeply,

    and be delighted with the abundance of her glory.”

12 For Hashem says, “Behold, I will extend peace to her like a river,

    and the glory of the nations like an overflowing stream;

    and you will nurse.

You will be carried on her side,

    and will be dandled on her knees.

13 As one whom his mother comforts,

    so I will comfort you.

    You will be comforted in Jerusalem.”

14 You will see it, and your heart shall rejoice,

    and your bones will flourish like the tender grass.

Hashem’s hand will be known among his servants;

    and He will have indignation against His enemies.

15 For, behold, Hashem will come with fire,

    and His chariots will be like the whirlwind;

to render His anger with fierceness,

    and His rebuke with flames of fire.

16 For Hashem will execute judgment by fire and by His sword on all flesh;

    and those slain by Hashem will be many.

17 “Those who sanctify themselves and purify themselves to go to the gardens, behind one in the middle, eating pig’s meat, abominable things, and the mouse, they shall come to an end together,” says Hashem.

18 “For I know their works and their thoughts. The time comes that I will gather all nations and languages, and they will come, and will see my glory.

19 “I will set a sign among them, and I will send those who escape of them to the nations, to Tarshish, Pul, and Lud, who draw the bow, to Tubal and Javan, to far-away islands, who have not heard My fame, nor have seen My glory; and they shall declare my glory among the nations. 20 They shall bring all your brothers out of all the nations for an offering to Hashem, on horses, in chariots, in litters, on mules, and on camels, to My holy mountain Jerusalem, says Hashem, as the children of Israel bring their offering in a clean vessel into Hashem’s house. 21 Of them I will also select priests and Levites,” says Hashem.

22 “For as the new heavens and the new earth, which I will make, shall remain before me,” says Hashem, “so your offspring and your name shall remain. 23 It shall happen that from one new moon to another, and from one Sabbath to another, all flesh will come to worship before me,” says Hashem. 24 “They will go out, and look at the dead bodies of the men who have transgressed against me; for their worm will not die, nor will their fire be quenched, and they will be loathsome to all mankind.”

Apostolic Reading

My Thoughts:

These are simply “my thoughts”. Yeshua is having a last supper with His talmidim (students). He is breaking bread and drinking wine, very common to do at meals, then and now. As He is blessing and breaking the bread He says it is like His body being broken, because He knows He will soon be executed. The wine is like His blood, that He knows will soon be flowing from the stake that He will hang from. He is saying here that His blood will be used to seal the New Covenant. I believe that is the New Covenant of Jeremiah 33:31-33. That is the time that He will return and reign and rule in Jerusalem as Mashiach. How His blood is to be used to seal this Covenant is a mystery, a heavenly mystery. But, He says it will, and I believe it.

Challenge:

Betrayal of friends. What does that look like today? It could be talking about a friend behind their back. It could be not helping a friend when they need you. It could be spreading false lies about him/her. Do you have that in your life? Have you done that? Even at its basic level, that is what gossip does. It is sheer betrayal. Instead of defending or uplifting your friend, you are tearing them down. If you have done this, I suggest you repair it immediately. Repent and give restitution. If we all do this, the world will heal quicker for the Mashiach to return.

Apostolic Reading: Matthew 26:20-30

0 Now when evening had come, He was reclining at the table with the twelve disciples. 21 As they were eating, he said, “Most certainly I tell you that one of you will betray Me.”

22 They were exceedingly sorrowful, and each began to ask Him, “It isn’t me, is it, Lord?”

23 He answered, “He who dipped his hand with Me in the dish will betray me. 24 The Son of Man goes even as it is written of him, but woe to that man through whom the Son of Man is betrayed! It would be better for that man if he had not been born.”

25 Judas, who betrayed him, answered, “It isn’t me, is it, Rabbi?”

He said to him, “You said it.”

26 As they were eating, Yeshua took bread, gave thanks for[a] it, and broke it. He gave to the disciples and said, “Take, eat; this is My body.” 27 He took the cup, gave thanks, and gave to them, saying, “All of you drink it,28 for this is My blood of the new covenant, which is poured out for many for the remission of sins. 29 But I tell you that I will not drink of this fruit of the vine from now on, until that day when I drink it anew with you in my Father’s Kingdom.”

30 When they had sung a hymn, they went out to the Mount of Olives.
