Terumah - Reading #2

Terumah תְּרוּמָה - Offering
Exodus:25:1-27:19

Reading #2 -Exodus 25:17–30

My Thoughts:

Hashem is beginning to give specific instructions for His dwelling place, the holy Tabernacle. His very first instruction is for the place where “I will meet with you (verse 22)”. The ark of the covenant. He designs a place where He can dwell over His Covenant with the people. The Covenant is the Law. Try to understand this, His Law is so important that He wants us to create a special housing for it, and a place over it for Him to dwell. Under the wings of angels will reside His Covenant with and for the people. That should make us think. Sink this Truth into your heart. Of all the places Hashem would dwell -- He chooses to be “over” His Law. It is very, very symbolic. His authority and purpose is over the Law today. We need to understand and respect this.

Challenge:

Are you following the Torah -- Hashem’s Law? Are you just beginning to understand it and trying to do your best in obeying it? That’s where I am. Coming to the Law as a “stranger” or “foreigner” is not easy. We might not have the opportunity to go to a synagogue, but there are many online groups that do wonderful studies on the Torah. You might check out: Chabbad It had so much information on Judaism and the Torah. Also a "Messianic" site - First Fruits of Zion. Check them out. There is so much to learn and be blessed by!

Reading #2 - Exodus 25:17–30

25:17 You shall make a mercy seat of pure gold. Two and a half cubits shall be its length, and a cubit and a half its width. 18 You shall make two cherubim of hammered gold. You shall make them at the two ends of the mercy seat. 19 Make one cherub at the one end, and one cherub at the other end. You shall make the cherubim on its two ends of one piece with the mercy seat. 20 The cherubim shall spread out their wings upward, covering the mercy seat with their wings, with their faces toward one another. The faces of the cherubim shall be toward the mercy seat. 21 You shall put the mercy seat on top of the ark, and in the ark you shall put the covenant that I will give you. 22 There I will meet with you, and I will tell you from above the mercy seat, from between the two cherubim which are on the ark of the covenant, all that I command you for the children of Israel.

23 “You shall make a table of acacia wood. Its length shall be two cubits, and its width a cubit, and its height one and a half cubits. 24 You shall overlay it with pure gold, and make a gold molding around it. 25 You shall make a rim of a hand width around it. You shall make a golden molding on its rim around it. 26 You shall make four rings of gold for it, and put the rings in the four corners that are on its four feet. 27 The rings shall be close to the rim, for places for the poles to carry the table. 28 You shall make the poles of acacia wood, and overlay them with gold, that the table may be carried with them. 29 You shall make its dishes, its spoons, its ladles, and its bowls with which to pour out offerings. You shall make them of pure gold. 30 You shall set bread of the presence on the table before me always.

Terumah - Reading #1

Terumah תְּרוּמָה - Offering

Exodus:25:1-27:19

Reading #1: Exodus 25:1–16

My Thoughts:

Hashem is asking Moses to go to the people and ask for donations to build His holy Tabernacle. And they are to give only if “their heart is willing (verse 2)”. He wants them to build the Tabernacle so that He can “dwell among them (verse 8)”.  How amazing and what an honor that must have been! For the almighty to make a proclamation that He wishes to dwell with them! You would think they would run to give their donations! And remembering they came out of slavery, isn’t it so interesting that the Egyptians just gave them a lot of wonderful valuable articles to take with them? So, Hashem even provided for them to give.

It is all a true lesson. We are to give to Hashem what we have so that His presence is in our lives. It may be prayer, worship, supporting His ministries -- but, we do it all to enjoy His love. His people were able to enjoy His physical appearance, and were to build him a “home”. It was all so good and beautiful!

Challenge:

Are you running to give donations for Hashem’s dwelling place today? You may think -- “Well nobody is building a Temple today -- it’s impossible!” No it is not. There is a group in Jerusalem called the “Temple Institute”. They have been getting ready for the building of the Temple for years. They need your prayer and financial support. Go to: TEMPLE INSTITUTE JERUSALEM . Read about what they are doing to build the 3rd Temple and the return of the Mashiach! Thank you!

Reading #1: Exodus 25:1–16

25 Hashem spoke to Moses, saying, 2 “Speak to the children of Israel, that they take an offering for Me. From everyone whose heart makes him willing you shall take My offering. 3 This is the offering which you shall take from them: gold, silver, bronze, 4 blue, purple, scarlet, fine linen, goats’ hair, 5 rams’ skins dyed red, sea cow hides, acacia wood, 6 oil for the light, spices for the anointing oil and for the sweet incense, 7 onyx stones, and stones to be set for the ephod and for the breastplate. 8 Let them make Me a sanctuary, that I may dwell among them. 9 According to all that I show you, the pattern of the tabernacle, and the pattern of all of its furniture, even so you shall make it.

10 “They shall make an ark of acacia wood. Its length shall be two and a half cubits, its width a cubit and a half, and a cubit and a half its height. 11 You shall overlay it with pure gold. You shall overlay it inside and outside, and you shall make a gold molding around it. 12 You shall cast four rings of gold for it, and put them in its four feet. Two rings shall be on the one side of it, and two rings on the other side of it. 13 You shall make poles of acacia wood, and overlay them with gold. 14 You shall put the poles into the rings on the sides of the ark to carry the ark. 15 The poles shall be in the rings of the ark. They shall not be taken from it. 16 You shall put the covenant which I shall give you into the ark.

Mishpatim - Reading #7

Mishpatim מִּשְׁפָּטִים - Laws
Exodus:21:1-24:18
Haftarah: Isaiah 66:1-24
Apostolic Reading: Matthew 26:20-30

Reading #7 - Exodus 23:26–24:18

My Thoughts:

In verse 26:24 we read “Come up to Hashem.” I am immediately thinking that is what we should do everyday. We should come to Hashem in our prayer, in our worship, in our actions. They were experiencing something that they had never had before. Witnessing the presence and power of Hashem on the mountain. And they were receiving Commandments that would give them LIFE. Hashem’s love for us is just amazing and overwhelming. He takes care of every detail in our life. And when necessary He presents Himself to us. Sometimes in small ways and sometimes big. Through miracles, through people and in everyday life, He makes Himself known to us. If you haven’t been “up to the mountain” lately, I encourage you to do it today!

Challenge:

In the beginning of today’s reading we see how Hashem will confuse the enemy and have them turn their backs on you (verse 23:27). Isn’t that amazing? He knows that daily we can experience spiritual warfare, but if we love Him and serve Him He makes these promises to protect us. If you are in an unusual situation in life, and feel like you are being “attacked” this is a good reading for you today. Know that He goes ahead of you, gets rid of the enemy in your path -- and will make a way for you. A good way. A G-d way. AMEN!

Reading #7 - Exodus 23:26–24:18

23:26 No one will miscarry or be barren in your land. I will fulfill the number of your days. 27 I will send my terror before you, and will confuse all the people to whom you come, and I will make all your enemies turn their backs to you. 28 I will send the hornet before you, which will drive out the Hivite, the Canaanite, and the Hittite, from before you. 29 I will not drive them out from before you in one year, lest the land become desolate, and the animals of the field multiply against you. 30 Little by little I will drive them out from before you, until you have increased and inherit the land. 31 I will set your border from the Red Sea even to the sea of the Philistines, and from the wilderness to the River; for I will deliver the inhabitants of the land into your hand, and you shall drive them out before you. 32 You shall make no covenant with them, nor with their gods. 33 They shall not dwell in your land, lest they make you sin against me, for if you serve their gods, it will surely be a snare to you.”

24 He said to Moses, “Come up to Hashem, you, and Aaron, Nadab, and Abihu, and seventy of the elders of Israel; and worship from a distance. 2 Moses alone shall come near to Hashem, but they shall not come near. The people shall not go up with him.”

3 Moses came and told the people all Hashem’s words, and all the ordinances; and all the people answered with one voice, and said, “All the words which Hashem has spoken will we do.”

4 Moses wrote all Hashem’s words, then rose up early in the morning and built an altar at the base of the mountain, with twelve pillars for the twelve tribes of Israel. 5 He sent young men of the children of Israel, who offered burnt offerings and sacrificed peace offerings of cattle to Hashem. 6 Moses took half of the blood and put it in basins, and half of the blood he sprinkled on the altar. 7 He took the book of the covenant and read it in the hearing of the people, and they said, “We will do all that Hashem has said, and be obedient.”

8 Moses took the blood, and sprinkled it on the people, and said, “Look, this is the blood of the covenant, which Hashem has made with you concerning all these words.”

9 Then Moses, Aaron, Nadab, Abihu, and seventy of the elders of Israel went up. 10 They saw the Elohim of Israel. Under his feet was like a paved work of sapphire stone, like the skies for clearness. 11 He didn’t lay his hand on the nobles of the children of Israel. They saw Hashem, and ate and drank.

12 Hashem said to Moses, “Come up to me on the mountain, and stay here, and I will give you the stone tablets with the law and the commands that I have written, that you may teach them.”

13 Moses rose up with Joshua, his servant, and Moses went up onto Elohim’s Mountain. 14 He said to the elders, “Wait here for us, until we come again to you. Behold, Aaron and Hur are with you. Whoever is involved in a dispute can go to them.”

15 Moses went up on the mountain, and the cloud covered the mountain. 16 Hashem’s glory settled on Mount Sinai, and the cloud covered it six days. The seventh day He called to Moses out of the middle of the cloud. 17 The appearance of Hashem’s glory was like devouring fire on the top of the mountain in the eyes of the children of Israel. 18 Moses entered into the middle of the cloud, and went up on the mountain; and Moses was on the mountain forty days and forty nights.

Haftarah Reading

My Thoughts:

Here in Isaiah we read about the desire of Hashem to have a dwelling place here on earth. Verse 1 says, “What kind of house will you build to Me”. I believe throughout Scripture we read that Hashem loves us and wants to be with us. But, maybe He is waiting for us to welcome Him. Think of it. There has not been a holy Temple, a dwelling place, for Hashem in Jerusalem for over 2,000 years. This holy mountain has been occupied by the enemy for all those years. Have we fought to get it back? Have we prayed to get it back? Are we supporting groups in Israel to rebuild the Temple? We should be giving money and prayer to the rebuilding of the Temple. What could be more important? If you are not doing this, please consider doing so.

Challenge:

There is an organization called the Temple Institute in Jerusalem. They have been preparing all the instruments and necessary artifacts for the Temple and the priests. I have visited their Institute many times and it is incredible. But, they need help and prayer to fulfill their mission. Please go to: TEMPLE INSTITUTE and consider supporting them today. That is my HUGE challenge to you.

Haftarah: Isaiah 66:1-24

66 Hashem says,

“Heaven is My throne, and the earth is My footstool.

    What kind of house will you build to Me?

    Where will I rest?

2 For my hand has made all these things,

    and so all these things came to be,” says Hashem:

“but I will look to this man,

    even to he who is poor and of a contrite spirit,

    and who trembles at My word.

3 He who kills an ox is as he who kills a man;

    he who sacrifices a lamb, as he who breaks a dog’s neck;

    he who offers an offering, as he who offers pig’s blood;

    he who burns frankincense, as he who blesses an idol.

Yes, they have chosen their own ways,

    and their soul delights in their abominations:

4 I also will choose their delusions,

    and will bring their fears on them;

because when I called, no one answered;

    when I spoke, they didn’t listen;

but they did that which was evil in my eyes,

    and chose that in which I didn’t delight.”

5 Hear Hashem’s word,

    you who tremble at His word:

“Your brothers who hate you,

    who cast you out for My name’s sake, have said,

‘Let Hashem be glorified,

    that we may see your joy;’

    but it is those who shall be disappointed.

6 A voice of tumult from the city,

    a voice from the temple,

    a voice of Hashem that repays His enemies what they deserve.

7 “Before she travailed, she gave birth.

    Before her pain came, she delivered a son.

8 Who has heard of such a thing?

    Who has seen such things?

Shall a land be born in one day?

    Shall a nation be born at once?

For as soon as Zion travailed,

    she gave birth to her children.

9 Shall I bring to the birth, and not cause to be delivered?” says Hashem.

    “Shall I who cause to give birth shut the womb?” says your Elohim.

10 “Rejoice with Jerusalem, and be glad for her, all you who love her.

    Rejoice for joy with her, all you who mourn over her;

11 that you may nurse and be satisfied at the comforting breasts;

    that you may drink deeply,

    and be delighted with the abundance of her glory.”

12 For Hashem says, “Behold, I will extend peace to her like a river,

    and the glory of the nations like an overflowing stream;

    and you will nurse.

You will be carried on her side,

    and will be dandled on her knees.

13 As one whom his mother comforts,

    so I will comfort you.

    You will be comforted in Jerusalem.”

14 You will see it, and your heart shall rejoice,

    and your bones will flourish like the tender grass.

Hashem’s hand will be known among his servants;

    and He will have indignation against His enemies.

15 For, behold, Hashem will come with fire,

    and His chariots will be like the whirlwind;

to render His anger with fierceness,

    and His rebuke with flames of fire.

16 For Hashem will execute judgment by fire and by His sword on all flesh;

    and those slain by Hashem will be many.

17 “Those who sanctify themselves and purify themselves to go to the gardens, behind one in the middle, eating pig’s meat, abominable things, and the mouse, they shall come to an end together,” says Hashem.

18 “For I know their works and their thoughts. The time comes that I will gather all nations and languages, and they will come, and will see my glory.

19 “I will set a sign among them, and I will send those who escape of them to the nations, to Tarshish, Pul, and Lud, who draw the bow, to Tubal and Javan, to far-away islands, who have not heard My fame, nor have seen My glory; and they shall declare my glory among the nations. 20 They shall bring all your brothers out of all the nations for an offering to Hashem, on horses, in chariots, in litters, on mules, and on camels, to My holy mountain Jerusalem, says Hashem, as the children of Israel bring their offering in a clean vessel into Hashem’s house. 21 Of them I will also select priests and Levites,” says Hashem.

22 “For as the new heavens and the new earth, which I will make, shall remain before me,” says Hashem, “so your offspring and your name shall remain. 23 It shall happen that from one new moon to another, and from one Sabbath to another, all flesh will come to worship before me,” says Hashem. 24 “They will go out, and look at the dead bodies of the men who have transgressed against me; for their worm will not die, nor will their fire be quenched, and they will be loathsome to all mankind.”

Apostolic Reading

My Thoughts:

These are simply “my thoughts”. Yeshua is having a last supper with His talmidim (students). He is breaking bread and drinking wine, very common to do at meals, then and now. As He is blessing and breaking the bread He says it is like His body being broken, because He knows He will soon be executed. The wine is like His blood, that He knows will soon be flowing from the stake that He will hang from. He is saying here that His blood will be used to seal the New Covenant. I believe that is the New Covenant of Jeremiah 33:31-33. That is the time that He will return and reign and rule in Jerusalem as Mashiach. How His blood is to be used to seal this Covenant is a mystery, a heavenly mystery. But, He says it will, and I believe it.

Challenge:

Betrayal of friends. What does that look like today? It could be talking about a friend behind their back. It could be not helping a friend when they need you. It could be spreading false lies about him/her. Do you have that in your life? Have you done that? Even at its basic level, that is what gossip does. It is sheer betrayal. Instead of defending or uplifting your friend, you are tearing them down. If you have done this, I suggest you repair it immediately. Repent and give restitution. If we all do this, the world will heal quicker for the Mashiach to return.

Apostolic Reading: Matthew 26:20-30

0 Now when evening had come, He was reclining at the table with the twelve disciples. 21 As they were eating, he said, “Most certainly I tell you that one of you will betray Me.”

22 They were exceedingly sorrowful, and each began to ask Him, “It isn’t me, is it, Lord?”

23 He answered, “He who dipped his hand with Me in the dish will betray me. 24 The Son of Man goes even as it is written of him, but woe to that man through whom the Son of Man is betrayed! It would be better for that man if he had not been born.”

25 Judas, who betrayed him, answered, “It isn’t me, is it, Rabbi?”

He said to him, “You said it.”

26 As they were eating, Yeshua took bread, gave thanks for[a] it, and broke it. He gave to the disciples and said, “Take, eat; this is My body.” 27 He took the cup, gave thanks, and gave to them, saying, “All of you drink it,28 for this is My blood of the new covenant, which is poured out for many for the remission of sins. 29 But I tell you that I will not drink of this fruit of the vine from now on, until that day when I drink it anew with you in my Father’s Kingdom.”

30 When they had sung a hymn, they went out to the Mount of Olives.

Mishpatim - Reading #6

Mishpatim מִּשְׁפָּטִים - Laws
Exodus:21:1-24:18

Reading #6 - Exodus 23:20–25

My Thoughts:

Some people think that the “angel” Hashem sends to His people, may simply be the Law. That kind of makes sense. Hashem tells them to pay attention to “him”, listen to his “voice”, and don’t provoke him (disobey him)? Others think that the angel is Gabriel. Whoever or whatever this angel is, it is important that people pay attention to him! If it is the Law then they were to listen, learn and obey. Probably to get themselves ready for the promised Land. To prepare them for the people that Hashem wants them to be. That they will be a “light to the nations”. Amen!

Challenge:

There is a wonderful promise in verse 25. If we are obedient to what Elohim tells us, then He will bless our food and water -- and take away sickness! Don’t you think this is incredible?  Here they are coming out of Egypt where they witnessed the Hand of Elohim defeating the enemy through many miracles

Reading #6 - Exodus 23:20–25

20 “Behold, I send an angel before you, to keep you by the way, and to bring you into the place which I have prepared. 21 Pay attention to him, and listen to his voice. Don’t provoke him, for he will not pardon your disobedience, for My name is in him. 22 But if you indeed listen to his voice, and do all that I speak, then I will be an enemy to your enemies, and an adversary to your adversaries. 23 For my angel shall go before you, and bring you in to the Amorite, the Hittite, the Perizzite, the Canaanite, the Hivite, and the Jebusite; and I will cut them off. 24 You shall not bow down to their gods, nor serve them, nor follow their practices, but you shall utterly overthrow them and demolish their pillars. 25 You shall serve Hashem your Elohim, and He will bless your bread and your water, and I will take sickness away from among you.

Mishpatim - Reading #5

Mishpatim מִּשְׁפָּטִים - Laws

Exodus: 21:1-24:18

Reading #5 - Exodus 23:6–19

My Thoughts:

The last command in this reading is not to boil a young goat in its mother’s milk (verse 19). At first glance we can feel this is a very humane act, which it is. But some sages believe it represents pagan worship. The pagans would sacrifice a baby goat in its mother’s milk. And of course, Hashem does not want us performing or even copying any type of pagan worship. He is the only Elohim we serve. He wants us to know that under no way does He want us to perform pagan worship. When the Israelites were coming into the Land they would be exposed to many different pagan gods. Hashem cares for us and instructs us ahead of time. Amen.

Challenge:

I love in verse 10 how Hashem has us rest our crops in the seventh year, and that the poor will have a way to eat. He provides for everyone -- rich and poor. And He is instructing His people how to take care of those around us. So, today my challenge is for you to think about if you are providing in some way for the poor or those around you who need special help. If you aren't, ask Hashem to give you an opportunity to do so. And He will. I actually got a text from a former client before a recent holiday asking for help. Our family along with five other family friends decided to help her and her seven children. We gave her food and presents. Her children were so excited! I know it was from Hashem because we were more blessed then the family was!

Reading #5 - Exodus 23:6–19

6 “You shall not deny justice to your poor people in their lawsuits.

7 “Keep far from a false charge, and don’t kill the innocent and righteous; for I will not justify the wicked.

8 “You shall take no bribe, for a bribe blinds those who have sight and perverts the words of the righteous.

9 “You shall not oppress an alien, for you know the heart of an alien, since you were aliens in the land of Egypt.

10 “For six years you shall sow your land, and shall gather in its increase, 11 but the seventh year you shall let it rest and lie fallow, that the poor of your people may eat; and what they leave the animal of the field shall eat. In the same way, you shall deal with your vineyard and with your olive grove.

12 “Six days you shall do your work, and on the seventh day you shall rest, that your ox and your donkey may have rest, and the son of your servant, and the alien may be refreshed.

13 “Be careful to do all things that I have said to you; and don’t invoke the name of other gods or even let them be heard out of your mouth.

14 “You shall observe a feast to me three times a year. 15 You shall observe the feast of unleavened bread. Seven days you shall eat unleavened bread, as I commanded you, at the time appointed in the month Abib (for in it you came out of Egypt), and no one shall appear before me empty. 16 And the feast of harvest, the first fruits of your labors, which you sow in the field; and the feast of ingathering, at the end of the year, when you gather in your labors out of the field. 17 Three times in the year all your males shall appear before the Lord Hashem.

18 “You shall not offer the blood of my sacrifice with leavened bread. The fat of my feast shall not remain all night until the morning.

19 You shall bring the first of the first fruits of your ground into the house of Hashem your Elohim.

“You shall not boil a young goat in its mother’s milk.

Mishpatim - Reading #4

Mishpatim מִּשְׁפָּטִים - Laws

Exodus: 21:1-24:18

Reading #4 - Exodus 22:27–23:5

My Thoughts:

In 23:5 we read that Hashem wants to help even animals that are in trouble. So, if you see a donkey (an animal) in a troublesome situation, you are to help it out. That shows me how much Hashem cares not only for us, but for His creation. He is so very kind.

Today I heard on the news that there was an abused dog that had gotten loose, running around in a local city park. Someone found him, helped him and got him to shelter. They were reporting that they were investigating the people who did this. It may seem trivial, but it’s not. We read about a particular Commandment in which we are to do exactly this -- rescue an animal if needed. I believe Hashem is saying that ALL of His creation matters. And if we are to treat even animals in a decent and fair way, how much so will we treat fellow humans?

Challenge:

Chapter 23:1 we are told not to give a false report, or a lie about someone. A lot of us are guilty of doing this even when we think we are just “sharing” some news. Or we may say something like, “Mary needs prayer. She is getting a divorce”. But, we really don’t know if this is the truth or not. Best, not to talk about them at all. Unless you have something kind to say about someone, don’t say anything.

Reading #4 - Exodus 22:27–23:5

22:27 for that is his only covering, it is his garment for his skin. What would he sleep in? It will happen, when he cries to me, that I will hear, for I am gracious.

28 “You shall not blaspheme Elohim, nor curse a ruler of your people.

29 “You shall not delay to offer from your harvest and from the outflow of your presses.

“You shall give the firstborn of your sons to me. 30 You shall do likewise with your cattle and with your sheep. It shall be with its mother seven days, then on the eighth day you shall give it to me.

31 “You shall be holy men to Me, therefore you shall not eat any meat that is torn by animals in the field. You shall cast it to the dogs.

23 “You shall not spread a false report. Don’t join your hand with the wicked to be a malicious witness.

2 “You shall not follow a crowd to do evil. You shall not testify in court to side with a multitude to pervert justice. 3 You shall not favor a poor man in his cause.

4 “If you meet your enemy’s ox or his donkey going astray, you shall surely bring it back to him again. 5 If you see the donkey of him who hates you fallen down under his burden, don’t leave him. You shall surely help him with it.
